About the founder
About the Founder
Paul Mark
Paul Mark is a musician, educator, Royal Conservatory of Music Certified Teacher and TDSB Guest Artist with the Claude Watson Arts Program.
Through years of working with students, parents and teachers, he noticed that teachers do much more than teach - they naturally build communities around them.
This experience led to Students Helping Students (SHS), a pilot initiative exploring how young artists can support one another, develop leadership skills and strengthen artistic communities.
Why SHS?
Why SHS?
Teachers do not simply teach. They build communities.
Students naturally become friends, share experiences, exchange ideas and support one another. Some of the most meaningful learning happens outside the lesson itself.
SHS was created to explore how these natural connections can become a trusted environment where young people can help one another grow.
Early pilot work
Early Pilot Work
Before developing SHS as a larger initiative, Paul tested peer support within his own teaching studio.
Students with stronger music theory knowledge helped younger students prepare for theory assignments and Royal Conservatory examinations.
The younger students received additional support, while the older students developed confidence, communication skills, leadership skills and a stronger sense of responsibility.

Older students gained confidence by helping others understand material they had already learned.
Parents expressed interest in positive environments where young people can connect, grow and spend time meaningfully.

SHS is still in development and is being designed as a reviewed and moderated student support initiative. Participation is not automatically approved. The goal is to create a safe, respectful, parent-friendly and trusted environment for students, families and artistic communities.
